Taking inspiration from Atlassian's ShipIt, we are taking Thursday 3 May to spend time on something no-one wants to spend time on – timesheets!
Time-sheets are a pain point for many organisations as while they are vital for financial planning and invoicing; and useful for formulating accurate work estimates and resource planning; they are often cumbersome and time-consuming for team members - taking them away from the work they are there to do. Hmmm, that sentence looks like a Venn diagram in the making...
At TechTime we know #everykeystrokematters.
Splitting into three teams, we will all try to tackle the problem of logging our work into timesheets with different approaches to letting the machine do it better:
- A Jira plugin to use in-house and maybe release to the Atlassian Marketplace
- A dashboard view for Confluence or Jira to get better use of the tools we already have
- A browser-based plugin to log tasks for us

... Was our ShipIt day a success?
... What solutions did we come up with?
... Did it make a difference to timesheet completion rates?
... Will there be a 31st season of The Simpsons?
Some of these questions will be answered in the next blog post coming soon...
