Hi Guys,
LOVE this theme .. I'm struggling with a couple of things though.
Is there a way to enable anonymous users to create new posts on the blog (I guess as news items) without letting them edit any of the existing ones ?
Also, I'm very happy for them to be able to make comments but again, not edit something that has already been posted.
In general the theme relies on default Confluence permission checking to recognize if a certain action is possible for the current user.
I will investigate further but I suspect once you gave someone permissions to create content they can also edit it.
In any case why would you let anonymous users post news to a blog? This is not a forum after all. Maybe I am missing something, please elaborate.
As for the comments - I am not able to edit comments when browsing as anonymous, even my own. You seem to imply that it is possible. Can you demonstrate what you meant?
Hi Ed,
Looks like you're right about the anonymous comments - I can't seem to edit them. That must have been some anomalous behaviour that I imagined
The use-case for anonymous posting to a blog is where I want to use it as a "feedback" mechanism where students can post comments about aspects of service delivery without needing to necessarily identify themselves. I do however want staff to be able to make authenticated posts.
I'll play around some more but kudos again on the great theme !
Cheers,
Andrew
Andrew,
Thanks for the feedback.
I still think a forum or an issue tracking software would serve the need better. We re-sell one btw
However the inability to post News (or Pages or manage the space for that matter) today being anonymous has nothing to do with Permissions.
The Theme simply renders a blank box where the buttons should be. I am recording this as an enhancement request.
To demonstrate: fix your space permissions to allow anonymous users to create news. Go to the front page, copy the link from Create News icon, Log off, go back to the front page, refresh if required, put the link in the address bar - the create post page displays perfectly well. If you do the same with permissions off - you would get a login page.
However at this moment once your anonymous users can create posts they can also edit them, including those not posted by them (unlike comments). Will investigate further - might be a need for a fix on the theme level.
Please consider sending us a line from your email address (ours are at the top of our main site http://techtime.co.nz.
Obviously this is strictly optional, but once I have it I can create an account for you in our tracker and you will be able to track such enhancements (or issues) submitted by you.
Changes to handle Anonymous user have been added to release 0.6.23
